About cereals

Traditionally, oats play an important role in horse feeding, especially in Germany.
This is mainly due to a high starch digestibility, a large amount of crude fiber in its spelt and mucilage, which have many positive effects on the stomach and the colon.

However, feeding pure oats also includes the following problems:
  • unfavorable balance of calcium and phosphorous
  • lack of fat-soluble vitamins
  • the amino-acid pattern is imbalanced
Amino acids are the building blocks of proteins and have to be supplied to the horse through nutrition. What matters, however, is not the amount of protein but the composition. In the composition of proteins, it is the amino-acid with the lowest dose, that is the limiting factor for all others.
Lysine is especially important to mention, since it enables the intake of all other amino-acids in the small intestine. The more lysine a meal contains, the better the digestion of all other amino-acids will function.
That is why we choose protein sources for our feed that contain large amounts of lysine, as for instance potato protein and non-genetically altered soybeans.
