Pro Pellets

Pellets often have a bad reputation in Germany - wrongly so! They offer many advantages: at each feeding, horses/ponies receive (at the same dosage) the same amount of nutrients, because the pelleting process creates a homogeneous mixture of all ingredients, which does not separate in the feedbag. A pellet also has a smaller surface area than e.g. muesli, which makes it more durable. The addition of molasses and other adhesives and binders is not necessary if the pellets are well pressed, which slows down the natural product spoilage considerably compared to molasses feed and improves the hygienic quality. Wheat free

When selecting the types of grain used, wheat was completely removed from the "Ludgers" raw materials list. It contains a high proportion of gluten. This can lead to sticking in the horse's digestive tract and to digestive disorders due to faulty fermentation in the large intestine, which can result in acute laminitis. For this reason, in our opinion, wheat does not belong in horse feed.

Without molasses

Molasses and sugar serve to stimulate the appetite and serve as a binding agent. However, they also lead to a high metabolic load and can, among other things, lead to intestinal problems, which is why there is no molasses or added sugar in “Ludgers” feed.

Without milling by-products

Milling by-products, such as oat hulling bran, wheat bran, etc., are generated in the food industry during the production of flour. They consist mainly of hull parts and residual grain and are also rich in phosphorus and phytic acid, which make it difficult to absorb minerals such as calcium, magnesium and iron. Milling by-products only serve the purpose of a filler in the feed and unnecessarily stress the horse's organism, which is why we disclaim them entirely. Read more here.

GMO free

In genetically modified organisms (GMOs), properties of plants (in our case) are altered by the transfer of parts of the DNA. This can lead to increased disease resistance, increased yields and improved quality. This fast, DNA-adapting technique does not (normally) occur in nature in this way. That is why all our products are free from genetically modified plants.
