Ludgers N PSYLLIUM HUSKS |PELLETS Difficulties in the production of horse droppings, diarrhoea, free-faecal-water, a dull coat, weight loss or light colic may be the first indications of a sanding up of the horse´s intestine. When horses absorb sand over the nutrition or eat it consciously, the absorbed sediments accumulate in the intestine. This can lead to impaired intestinal peristalsis and in addition to irritation of the intestinal mucosa due to grains of sand.

The ability of the intestine to absorb nutrients and water decreases and the risk of colic increases massively. Here, the use of psyllium helps because of the swelling and mucus-forming properties. Especially the husk of psyllium contains most of the valuable mucus-forming and water-binding ingredients of this plant. The husk as well as the in Ludgers N PSYLLIUM HUSKS |PELLETS contained cellulose constitute a thick gel as soon as they get in contact with water in the intestine, which binds the sediments and excess water and secrets it with the faeces. The mucilage of the psyllium husks facilitates the transport of feed through the digestive tract and reduces the risk of constipation and colic. The pectin naturally contained in apple have a prebiotic effect on the intestinal flora. Latest findings show, that psyllium husks have a regulating effect on the blood sugar level and thus can have a positive effect on horses with insulin resistance and laminitis.

Nutritional knowledge about the ingredients

Psyllium husks bind excess water and sand due to their high swelling capacity. The contained mucilage promote the flowability of the pulp in the intestine and have a calming effect on the mucous membranes.
Apple naturally contains pectin, which can only be digested by microbes in the colon of the horse. The pectin has a prebiotic effect and simultaneously binds excess water in the intestine.
Due to its ability to bind water, Cellulose causes a better consistency of the faeces and supports the natural intestinal peristalsis.

for horses with free-faecal-water or diarrhoea due to increased intake of sand
preventive to reduce sand deposits in the intestine

Ludgers N PSYLLIUM HUSKS | PELLETS should be applied for short time periods or for year-round problems permanently pure or with the concentrated feed. It is advised to divide the daily dose into all meals. The horse should have free access to fresh water.
